Instructional staff members may be allowed up to six (6) days of leave with pay for personal reasons each year, to be charged against accrued sick leave. Personal leave shall be non-cumulative, and must be approved in advance. Personal leave may be granted in increments of one-half or full days.

Instructional staff members may also request a personal leave of absence without pay only for instructional staff who are on continuing contract or professional services contract and have seven (7) continuous years of service in the District, to include all approved leaves except leave for public office and Charter. All requests for extended personal leave without pay must be approved by the employee’s immediate supervisor prior to being submitted to the Superintendent. Upon return from such leave, the teacher shall be guaranteed a teaching position in the school district.

Normally personal leave without pay requests will not be for more than one (1) school year (from July 1st through the following June 30th), but may be extended for one (1) more year under extenuating circumstances with the approval of the Superintendent for staffing purposes. Such leave will not be available for the purpose of accepting employment of a permanent nature.

Bargaining unit members should refer to the collective bargaining agreement for more information pertaining to personal leave.
